Pen Cayetano
Pen Cayetano was born in Dangriga which is in the southern district of Stann Creek in Belize. He is a self taught painter and musician. As early as primary school he showed interest in art and music, growing up he studied the culture of Garifuna and Creole. In 1981 Pen Cayetano created the Punta Rock which is a combination of cultural Garifuna music and elements of modern Rock music. Together with his cultural music group at the time “the Turtle Shell Band” they performed all over Belize, Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala and the United States. Today Punta Rock is Belize number one music and is performed by different Bands. Pen Cayetano the King of Punta Rock and his family left Belize in the early nineties and migrated to Germany. He worked with many musicians and has taught many children around the world so he decided to teach his own about culture and music. After eight years of intensive learning, their band The Cayetanos made their first public appearance in 1998 in Ahrweiler, Germany. Since then the band has toured many cities in Germany.
